Chair Yoga is a unique yoga style that adapts yoga positions and poses through creative use of a yoga chair. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of the body. The student is able to warm up the body safely and perform yoga poses with more support and stability. Poses are done seated on the chair or the chair is used for support during standing poses, forward and backward bends, side extensions, balancing, and leg and arm stretches. Chair Yoga is suitable for all ages, fitness levels and physical conditions.
The certification program is of special interest to yoga teachers, classroom teachers, PT (physical therapist), OT (occupational therapist), CSW (clinical social worker), RNs (registered nurses), or other healthcare professionals including those working with seniors, children, those in wheelchairs, or anyone with physical challenges that prevent them from getting down on the floor. This form of yoga is also ideal for school children to practice right at their desk without yoga mats or other props.
In this program, Mayuri will add a new dimension to your teaching and/or care-giving. The teacher certification will provide you with a firm foundation for teaching Chair Yoga and will address:
Bring a pair of one- or two-pound dumbbells, wear comfortable athletic clothing, and bring a water bottle and pen(s).
Registration: Tuition is $395 per person. Tuition includes a manual, resistance band and support materials. Advanced reservations are required. Limited spaces available. Reserve online at http://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ws.asp?studioid=28559&stype=-8&sView=day&sTrn=100000000
Food: Snacks, tea, and coffee will be provided throughout the weekend for participants, courtesy of Prasanthi Studio. A boxed lunch option will be available for participants for a minimal cost, or participants may chose to dine at several local restaurants which are within walking distance. Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need prior yoga experience?
Some yoga experience is preferred to support this training and is a valuable supplemental training for registered yoga teachers. The certification program is of special interest to classroom teachers, PT (physical therapist), OT (occupational therapist), CSW (clinical social worker), RNs (registered nurses), or other healthcare professionals including those working with seniors, children, those in wheelchairs, or anyone with physical challenges that prevent them from getting down on the floor.
What type of certification will I receive?
Participants will be certified to teach chair yoga. Unless participants have completed other trainings (200-hour RYT or more), they are not qualified to teach regular adult or children's yoga.
What is the additional support offered?
Participants in this training will receive a comprehensive illustrated manual and sample resistance band. Basic support is offered by email and participants can purchase consultation hours to help to develop curriculum or support beginner teaching.
What can I do with this certificate?
Participants can offer instruction in classrooms, corporate settings, senior centers, yoga, studios, and recreational facilitates.
Will I need special insurance to teach chair yoga?
Liability insurance protects yoga instructors against damages incurred or legal actions brought about by claimants as a result of the instructor's teaching duties. We highly recommend purchasing liability insurance before teaching private or group classes. If you're teaching as an independent contractor, it's increasingly common for the studio, gym, or other facility that hires you to require that you have an individual policy of your own. Facilities that don't have this requirement because they have coverage can forget to renew regularly, or have exclusions that leave you unprotected. Having your own coverage is good risk management for anyone who runs their own business or classroom.
Can I receive continuing education credit for this training?
This course usually qualifies for continuing education units in most disciplines that require such units. Registered yoga teachers can log 14 hours of contact training hours in "technique, training & practice."
